Honor-A-Life Page for Ruby Dee

Ruby Dee, African-American actress and activist died today at the age of 92. Dee' lagacy is that she found a way to intertwine her pasion for acting with activism. In 2000 after she and her husband, Ossie Davis accepted the Screen Actors Guild Award for Lifetime Achievement she stated, "We are image makers. Why can't we be peacemakers too?"

Dee's accolades include and Emmy, a Grammy, two Screen Actors Guild awards and the Naacp Image Award, Kennedy Center Honors, the National Civil Rights Museum's Lifetime Achievement Award.
In addition she received an Oscar nomination for best Supporting Actress for her role in "American Gangster" in 2007 at the age of 83.
