"SOUTH BEND - Mr. Pete Willard McBride, 62, who resided on Alonzo Watson Drive, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2007, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Pete was born October 23, 1944, to the union of George and Olivia McBride in Jackson, Tennessee. He attended West High School. Coming from Tennessee in 1967, he moved to South Bend. He was united in holy matrimony to Marlene J. Hopkins, who preceded him in death. Prior to his illness he was employed at AM General and EWI for many years. He also worked for years at Goodwill Industries. He was a member of Abundant Faith Ministries where he served as an usher, church cook and facility engineer. Pete loved to cook, spend time with his family, talk and tell jokes. He leaves to cherish his memory four daughters, Tonya (Rufus) Verse of Scottsdale, Arizona, Twana West of Indianapolis, Indiana, Kyla Hopkins and Kim Hopkins, both of South Bend; five grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Brionna Verse, Brooke Jefferson, Kennedy Verse, Camiya Robinson and Erron Gaddie; three sisters, Bernice McBride of South Bend, Gladys Levy of Indianapolis and Kathy McBride of Arlington, Texas; two brothers, Hershel T. McBride of Jackson, Tennessee, and Wayne McBride of Knoxville, Tennessee; six sisters-in-law, Bernetta McBride of Jackson, Tennessee, Alice Bashley of Sikeston, Missouri, Charlotte Chinn, Tera Redd and Shirley Chinn, all of South Bend, and Janice Chinn of Indianapolis; a brother-in-law, Fred Hopkins of South Bend; three special nieces, Cynthia Howard, Sharon Hawkins and Olivia Hudson, whom he referred to as His Angel; a few special friends, James Davis, Curtis Mahone, Robert Jones. also known as his brother; along with a host of cousins and nephews who affectionately called him ""Uncle Pete."" He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Olivia McBride; wife, Marlene J. McBride; brothers, Nathaniel McBride, Leroy Bashley and Prentis Bonds; and his mother-in-law, Lillian Hopkins. Funeral services for Mr. Pete W. McBride will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2007, in Abundant Faith Family Ministries, with burial following at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will take one hour prior to services in the church.
