Michael Smith, 58, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2012, at Gadsden Regional Medical Center surrounded by family. Michael was a native of Gadsden and a longtime resident of Borden Springs, Ala. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. Michael was a member of the United States Navy, where he proudly served on the USS Intrepid. He was a Master Mason with Lodge 502, located in Heflin, Ala. He loved his job as a Compliance Officer with Cleburne County. Michael was a lover of life and an avid hunter, who always enjoyed spending time outdoors with his friends and family. The celebration service will be held at 4 p.m. today at Thompson Funeral Home, Piedmont. The family will begin receiving friends at 2 p.m. Pastor Rodney Ragsdale, Mr. Steve Swoffard, and son, Gregory Smith, will officiate. Burial will be at Piedmont Memorial Gardens. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Sadler Smith, Borden Springs; parents, Lee Roy and Frankie Smith, Gadsden; sisters, Renee (Bobby) Moon, Alabaster, and Cindy (Mike) Johnson, McCalla; children, Gregory and Eric Smith, Palm Bay, Fla., Dana Propes (Daryl) Clay and Greg Motes, Borden Springs; grandchildren, Alayna, Keileigh and Sean Smith, Palm Bay, Fla., Jonathon, Josh and Marley Propes, Borden Springs; and beloved friend and uncle, Rex and Sharon Smith, Ragland. Pallbearers will be Steve Swoffard, Lane Kelton, Roger Morgan, Marty Massey, David Segers and Mike Bradley. Honorary pallbearer will be Keith Hall.
