John J. Donahue, 40 WORCESTER - John J. Donahue, age 40, of Worcester, died Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at home after a long illness. Jack leaves his parents, William E. and Nancy (Corn) Donahue; his children, Benjamin and Abbey Donahue; his former wife, Kathleen Donahue; two sisters, Lori Mathews and her husband Doug Mathews, and Karen Bellerose; two brothers, Bill and Paul Donahue, all of Worcester; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Jack was born in Worcester. He was a graduate of Doherty High School. He attended Westfield State College and graduated from Anna Maria College in Paxton. Jack was a social worker for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for many years. He worked in the Dept. of Social Services now known as the Dept. of Children & Families. He has recently been a mental health counselor at the new Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital. Jack worked primarily with adolescents and was proud of the many positive outcomes from his counsel and guidance. Jack loved sports, gardening and time shared with his family. Jack's children were the loves of his life. He saw Benjamin as a sports star, as he excelled in baseball, basketball and golf, and Abbey was his princess. Calling hours are Sunday, February 23 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester. The funeral will be Monday from the funeral home with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant St., Worcester. A private burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
